This guide will help you navigate its features with ease. Let's get started!
At it's heart, Knowte Transcribe takes voice input and turns that audio into formatted text. Create a shopping list, product documentation, meeting minutes, technical documents and so on with ease.
Knowte Transcribe uses OpenAI Whisper to transcribe spoken words to plain text, and then uses ChatGPT to format that text based on instructions which you choose.
Using the OpenAI APIs requires you to open an account with OpenAI and obtain an OpenAI API Key. This ensures that you have complete control over the audio, model, billing, text output etc - none of that is stored outside of the app for privacy and security.
So the short version of the help is... Sign up for an OpenAI API key, enter that in the app, choose a set of instructions to use when transforming your words, press on Record and then Transcribe.

Main Screen
Upon opening Knowte Transcribe, you'll enter the Main Screen where you'll see a list of your recordings. Any recordings that are already transcribed will have an auto-generated title, but if you select new instructions and press on 'Transcribed', Knowte Transcribe will resend the text to ChatGPT with the new instructions.
Tapping on the title will take you to the formatted text which can then be copied to paste into another app, or sent in a message, email or anything else your phone can send to.
A long press on the title will take you to the audio file if you need to listen back to that.
To make a new recording simply tap the Microphone Button. The timer will start and you can then Start speaking. After you are finished then simply tap on the stop button. You can also pause a recording if you need. A recording will continue in the background, but be careful to stop it and not forget!
The big power in the app comes from the instructions provided. You could get the words back exactly, but nicely formatted, or you could get the app to return you a recipe by just asking for it, or you can have ChatGPT summarize meeting minutes for you, picking out important points and actions and not returning irrelevant items in the transcript.
Swiping left on a recording in the list will give you the option to save the audio, rename the recording or delete it.
You can also import audio recorded from other apps into Knowte Transcribe.
Main Screen
OpenAI API token
Before being able to transcribe, you must setup the app with your OpenAI key. To do this go into the Token settings by tapping the Gear Icon in the top right corner of the Main Screen.
Follow the instructions at https://platform.openai.com to sign up and obtain an OpenAI API key.
Basically one you are signed up to the OpenAI Platform, go to https://platform.openai.com/api-keys and add a new API Key. Copy this key and paste into the field in the Knowte Transcribe settings page. Tap Save. When you go back into the settings next, you will see a selection of models is now also available if you would like to change models. The default is the current ChatGPT model.
Managing the keys yourself will allow you full control over the billing. A business or family could set keys for individuals and use the OpenAI Platform billing functionality to set limits etc. at this page https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing/overview

Customizing Instruction Sets
The instruction sets button is located at the top left of the main screen. Tap on that to see the instruction sets, the currently selected Instruction Set is marked with a blue tick.
Knowte Transcribe uses the instructions here to send to ChatGPT along with the transcribed audio. The instructions give the AI model the details it needs to format the text to your requirements.
You can select a different Instruction set by tapping the one you want. You can also change any of them to suit your needs, and add new ones.
If you change the instruction set and then back on the Main Screen tap 'Transcribed" the app will resend the transcribed text and new instructions to the model.
The examples provided are a great starting point, but you are encouraged to experiment. You can change languages, make text more or less formal, choose to transcribe as close as possible to the original audio or allow the GPT model to summarize for you.
To add a new Instruction Set tap the plus sign at the top right, or to change an existing Instruction you can long press on the the list to go into Edit mode.
